What's MainStreet all about?
Our vision is to help create a unique and vital downtown that embraces history, celebrates the arts, preserves our natural environment and promotes quality events to instill a ‘sense of place’ in our community.
The Batavia MainStreet program is a not-for-profit, community-based organization devoted to enhancing downtown Batavia’s identity as the heart of the community through dedicated volunteer efforts.
Every aspect of MainStreet revolves around volunteers. People are needed on the four working committees: design, economic restructuring, organization and promotion. A board of directors comprised of business owners, property owners, residents and partner representatives serves MainStreet and is elected at the annual meeting in the spring. If you are interested in volunteering, contact the MainStreet office at (630) 761-3528. New volunteers are ALWAYS welcome.

The four-point approach of the Main Street Program is a comprehensive revitalization program made up of four components. Each of these components works as a team to solve problems in the downtown. The design committee enhances the "streetscape," or physical appearance of the downtown by making or encouraging improvements to buildings, window displays, signage, sidewalks and other elements that convey a visual message about how our downtown presents itself. The economic restructuring committee, or "ER," works to strengthen existing businesses and recruit new ones by providing information and research, identifying opportunities for market growth and developing financial incentives for building rehabilitation and business development. The organization committee focuses on recruitment and training of volunteers, communications, the annual partnership campaign and fund raising events to ensure Batavia MainStreet remains a vital organization. The goal of the promotion committee is to create retail promotions, special events and a positive image of the business district that brings people back downtown to shop, recreate and socialize.
