Batavia Mainstreet

Welcome to Downtown Batavia!
Congratulations, you've discovered one of the best kept secrets in the Fox Valley and western Chicago suburbs - Batavia, Illinois!  Plan to come for day trip or as part of a longer extended stay.  Just 38 miles west of downtown Chicago along banks of the beautiful Fox River, downtown Batavia is waiting to host you and your family.  Download our downtown Batavia brochure here that includes a map and ideas of things to do or phone our office at (630) 761-3528 and we'll be happy to mail you a copy.

Open Space Recreation

Whether you like to bicycle, fish, walk, run or bird watch, we have acres of space waiting for you to explore. Also, don't miss our many large sporting events (Batavia Triathlon and Half-Marathon) and many others that take place downtown.  If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of your life, escape to our downtown to slow yourself down and enjoy nature. If you're lucky, you'll even spot the family of bald eagles currently nesting on the south end of the Fox River

Arts Abound!art by joe
It seems everywhere you turn downtown Batavia defines itself with art. Driving along Rt. 25 at Wilson Street you'll encounter a sculpture garden nestled in the corner landscape. Walking on the Riverwalk you'll find "Circle of Peace" statue or the taleidescope beckoning you to "take it for a whirl."  You'll also encounter art while walking across our new bridge or the newly painted mural (pictured above) behind Prairie Path Cycle. The arts are a driving force behind our downtown revitalization and include the visual arts (Water Street Studio) with a new and growing artists' colony, performing arts (Albright Theatre), and musical arts (Ispirare School of Music and Music Matters). Our quarterly arts walks feature the work of local artists and all are invited. Check our calendar of events for dates - public is most welcome!

Limestone from our local quarries is featured on our historic churches and buildings.  Windmills once manufactored in our downtown spin to the rhythm of the wind and are showcased on our beautiful volunteer-build Riverwalk. Mary Todd Lincoln artifacts and train history are also preserved at the Batavia Depot Museum as well as a history walk along the Riverwalk denoting our relationship with the Fox River.
