MainStreet's Batavia Housewalk Planned for September
6 Batavia, IL: Batavia MainStreet proudly introduces the date of Saturday September 6th for the 2008 House Walk. MainStreet Board Vice President and event chair Sharon Harwick of Fabric Boutique L.L.C. again brings her expertise to this year’s house walk, paired with Co-Chair Michaelynn Rose of Rose Photo Studio, also a MainStreet Board Member and downtown business owner. “Two things are needed at this point,” says Sharon Harwick, “volunteers and unique homes”. One theme under consideration is “houses that have walked” (physically been moved to their present Batavia location from another location) and “painted ladies” as well as an interesting, eclectic mix of uniquely Batavia homes. Batavia residents who might be interested in opening their homes for the walk should contact Sharon Harwick to discuss this possibility at (630) 269-3071. Harwick is quick to point out that much volunteer work is needed now to be ready for the fall. The planning committee is now meeting and invites new volunteers to get involved. The next meeting of the planning committee is Wednesday March 26th at Panera Bread’s back room at 7:30 p.m. Volunteers are needed for many roles – from volunteer co-chair to House Captains and day of walk house docents. Volunteers unable to attend the meeting or ones that would like more information should contact Sharon Harwick at slharwick@comcast.net or call her at (630) 269-3071. The Batavia MainStreet Program is one of 69 not-for-profit, community based organizations in the state of Illinois. The mission of Batavia MainStreet is to enhance the identity of Batavia’s downtown area as the heart of our community. MainStreet members work through the four points: Design, Economic Restructuring, Organization and Promotion to improve the downtown district. MainStreet volunteers believe the revitalization of Downtown Batavia is essential to our community’s sense of pride, place, and heritage for this and future generations.
