Architect to Provide Upper Story Workshop, Design Advice and Assistance for Historic Downtown Batavia

Batavia, IL:Architect Anna Margaret Borntrager with the Illinois Main Street program is visiting downtown Batavia on Thursday October 4th to provide education and design assistance. A luncheon workshop is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Batavia City Government Center Council Chambers (100 N. Island Ave.) followed by free design advice and assistance for revitalizing the downtown Batavia historic downtown area. The luncheon workshop is free to Batavia MainStreet partners and $20 for guests. Reservations should be placed by Tuesday October 2nd by calling the Batavia MainStreet office at (630) 761-3528 or emailing britta@downtownbatavia.com.

Illinois Main Street architects provide these services at no charge to Illinois Main Street communities like Batavia. Anna Margaret Borntrager is scheduled to make a luncheon presentation “Upper Story Design: What’s Going on Upstairs in Your Building” focusing on successful examples of upper story rehabilitation for residential and businesses as essential parts of downtown revitalization. The presentation is followed by a short tour of selected downtown Batavia upper story rehabilitation projects.

Following the luncheon workshop and upper story tour, Borntrager is scheduled to tour historic downtown buildings and to provide property owners and businesses onsite consultations. Businesses in the downtown Batavia historic district considering exterior façade improvements or interior historic renovations are scheduled for visits and may qualify for a written plan or an architectural design for an historic building façade rehabilitation. Any business in downtown that desires a visit should make an appointment by calling Design Committee member Jennifer Warta at (630) 406-9504 and will be scheduled if space is still available.

Illinois Main Street is administered in the Office of Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn with architectural assistance from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. Designated Main Street communities receive free design assistance and advice to revitalize their historic downtown areas. There are currently 62 active Illinois Main Street communities.
