6/29/2007

Batavia, IL: Celebrating 172 years (1836 - 2008) and their last summer at 15 N.Washington Avenue in downtown Batavia, the First Baptist Church is inviting the entire community to an old fashioned Ice Cream Social and Jazz Concert on Sunday July 15th from 2 - 4PM. Live music performance by the "Community Jazz Ensemble" under the direction of Kevin Kaisershot takes center stage from 2- 3PM on the First Baptist grounds. Patrons are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the music and outdoor venue.

After 172 years as The First Baptist Church at its present location, the congregation will be moving to its new home at the corner of West Main Street and Mill Creek Drive and be known as The Faith Baptist Church at Mill Creek. All of Batavia is invited to the Ice Cream Social at the Church as they say "Thank You to the city of Batavia for our 172 years with you".

MainStreet Executive Director Britta McKenna is excited about the upcoming event, “The First Baptist Church has been an historic presence in our downtown for many decades and this ‘jazz concert a la mode’ is a wonderful way to thank our community.”

The Community Jazz Ensemble was formed, initially as a Boy Scout Eagle project, in 2005 and is comprised of past and present EAHS band members (and a few other folks from the Aurora area). Their goal is to offer free performances at local senior centers and non-profit functions for the communities' enjoyment.
