Batavia, IL: Downtown Batavia will be "in the green" on Saturday April 22nd as the EnvironExpo rolls out the eco carpet from 10 am - 4 pm at Batavia's City Hall (100 N. Island Ave.). Ann Drover, EnvironExpo Chair, comments about Batavia's inaugural event, "Everyone is invited to this unique event to raise awareness in the community about environmental concerns and to show simple, logical, and economical solutions to energy, air and water challenges."

More than 50 organizations and businesses are featured with exhibits and hands-on activities that all members of the family can enjoy. Exhibitors plan to help the environment by exhibiting 'alternative' ideas, educating the community, and promoting a cost-effective 'green' approaches to living. Boring? Anything but, as Batavia Citizens for Clean Energy and Conservation (BCCEC) are sponsoring the event which is designed to feature a wide variety of exhibits sure to interest anyone.

Four exhibits worth special mention include: The Fox Valley Woodworkers Club, showcasing their hand-built, sustainable model house cutaway, featuring the 'green' energy efficient materials we should all begin to use and the standard materials still found in most buildings.

A Nationally known company, Sarnafil, with sustainable, cost-effective roofing systems being used in cities across the country, that will show and explain the materials used in their garden roof systems and in their Energy Smart Roof. These roofs feature highly reflective surfaces that NASA has shown by thermal imagery, to be the coolest spots in a given city.

Batavia Woman's Club with two separate booths that exhibit different 'green' ideas: usable materials and products that are made, surprisingly, from recyclables, and the booth with household products for cleaning and other purposes that are eco-friendly to ourselves, and the environment.

Middle and High School student exhibits showcasing their experiments and research in energy efficiency, recycling, and water conservation. BHS graphic students’ talents are featured on decorated recycle bins that those who attend are strongly urged to use, plus students from most Batavia schools will be making posters to adorn the City Hall walls.

More exhibits are located outside, including a food vendor’s tent and a kids’ tent featuring 'green' craft items, while speakers and videos are located on upper floors to round out and event designed to educate and entertain.
