Batavia, IL: MainStreet invites the community to attend “A Night at the Oscars” on Sunday March 5th at 6:30 p.m. The red carpet is being rolled out at First Street Playhouse (150 S. Water Street) for locals and celebrity look-alikes to enjoy an evening of fun and entertainment. BATV will be on hand to capture the grand entrances and highlights of the evening while Master of Ceremonies City Administrator Bill McGrath is scheduled to moderate the entertainment, live auction items and acknowledgments. This year’s Oscars Partnership Party is produced by Batavia Enterprises. Promotion Chair Tonya Schmidt comments, “You don’t have to dress like a celebrity to come to our event, but we’ll sure treat you like one! Other activities including comedy, music and card tables are available for optional entertainment.”

All adults 21 and over are invited to participate in “A Night at the Oscars” for a $25 individual partnership donation. Tickets are available at Sue’s Family Hair Co. (40 N. Island Ave.) and the Batavia MainStreet office (2 E. Wilson St upstairs). Space is limited and the community is encouraged to purchase their tickets by February 28th.

Local businesses are donating services for the event with Olmstead’s TV providing the big screen, Comcast hooking up the cable, and movie decorations from Randall 16. A few sample auction items donated to date include: Dinner for 8, prepared and served by the Batavia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, FlagSource pole and set of four flags, Delnor Health & Wellness Center 3-month membership, and an antique MainStreet railroad light pole. More items are being accepted for the annual auction to benefit MainStreet by calling (630) 761-3528.

Batavia MainStreet Partnership levels include: $25 individual member; $75 family membership; $100 friend (voting member level begins here); $250 Spirit of Batavia; $500 Bridge Builder; $1,000 Challenge; $2,500 Cornerstone and $5,000 Founder. Every individual or business donor to the partnership drive receives a complimentary ticket to the gala red carpet event, where one is sure to find celebrity look-alikes, stand up comedy, live entertainment, a silent auction and more prior to the big screen showing of the Oscars in the main theatre. All partners receive quarterly MainStreet newsletters and mailings and help support the 501(c) 3 organization’s efforts to revitalize downtown Batavia. Funding for Batavia MainStreet comes from three areas: financial support from the annual partnership drive, City of Batavia funding, and special events, programs and sponsorships. The MainStreet partnership brochure is available online at www.downtownbatavia.com where more information about benefits is available. MainStreet Executive Director Britta McKenna comments, “We are very excited about the Oscars party and hope the event will expose new people to Batavia MainStreet while helping us to reach our goal.”
