Batavia MainStreet Kicks Off Annual Partnership
Drive With Goal of Reaching $25,000 Batavia, IL: The 2006 Batavia MainStreet annual partnership drive is now underway. The MainStreet Organization and Promotion Committees have teamed up to create a “members only” Partnership Party for all who join between now and March 3rd. “A Night at the Oscars” is the theme for this year’s party with businesses, property owners, and Batavia citizens encouraged to join Batavia MainStreet. This year’s Partnership Party is presented by Batavia Enterprises with a lead gift of $5,000 to kick off the campaign. The party is scheduled for Sunday March 5th from 6:30 – 11 p.m. at First Street Playhouse. Organization Chair Sharon Mitchell states, “All businesses and individuals who care about the future of our downtown are needed to reach the goal of $25,000. A lead gift of $5,000 from Gerry Dempsey and Batavia Enterprises is the spark we needed to kick off the campaign.” The 2006 Partnership mailing went out February 1st; anyone not receiving the mailing and wishing to join should call the MainStreet office at (630)761-3528 or print out the partnership brochure from the Web site at www.downtownbatavia.com. Partnership applications are also available at the MainStreet office at 2 E. Wilson St. “A Night at the Oscar’s” invitations are being hand delivered or mailed the week of February 13th by MainStreet board members and volunteers. Every individual or business donor to the partnership drive receives a complimentary ticket to the gala red carpet event, where one is sure to find celebrity look alikes, stand up comedy, live entertainment, a silent auction and more prior to the big screen showing of the Oscars in the main theatre. 2006 Partnership levels include: $25 individual member; $75 family membership; $100 friend (voting member level begins here); $250 Spirit of Batavia; $500 Bridge Builder; $1,000 Challenge; $2,500 Cornerstone and $5,000 Founder. All partners receive quarterly MainStreet newsletters and mailings and help support the 501(c) 3 organization’s efforts to revitalize downtown Batavia. Funding for Batavia MainStreet comes from three areas: financial support from the annual partnership drive, City of Batavia funding (restored for 2006); and special events, programs and sponsorships. MainStreet Executive Director Britta McKenna comments, “Last year the partnership drive raised $18,000 for an organization that was still largely unproven. A year later, we feel MainStreet is well grounded and poised to blossom if supported by the community’s gifts and volunteer efforts.” The Batavia MainStreet Program is one of 63 not-for-profit, community based organizations in the state of Illinois. The mission of Batavia MainStreet is to enhance the identity of Batavia’s downtown area as the heart of our community. MainStreet members work through the four points: Design, Economic Restructuring, Organization and Promotion to improve the downtown district. MainStreet volunteers believe the revitalization of Downtown Batavia is essential to our community’s sense of pride, place, and heritage for this and future generations.
