Batavia MainStreet Upcoming Fall Events Invite
Local Participation Batavia, IL: Batavia MainStreet invites various local businesses and the community to participate in upcoming downtown events. Saturday October 1st is "Business Day" at the Batavia Farmers' Market, where the south end of the market is available for area businesses to set up a table/tent from 8 a.m. until Noon. The cost is $15 for a 10' x 10' space and $25 for a 20' x 10' space. Registration forms are available online at www.downtownbatavia.com under the events tab or by calling (630) 761-3528. A limited number of spaces are available for this once a year opportunity. Also on October 1st, Batavia MainStreet and the Batavia Chamber of Commerce are combining efforts for the 2nd Annual Batavia Poker Pub Crawl on Saturday October 1st from 7 pm - Midnight. Participating downtown Batavia restaurants include: East China Inn (140 W. Wilson St.), Fox Grill (35 N. Water St.), One East Wilson (1 E. Wilson St.), O'Brien's Pub and Grill (12 N. River St.) and The Venice Tavern (31 N. River St.). Adults 21 and over are encouraged to round up a group of friends and start at any of the five participating restaurants, but must visit all five during the evening to develop their poker hand. One ticket per person will be sold for $5.00 at the door, which includes drawing one new poker card at each location. Additional poker cards may be purchased for $1.00 each after discarding. "Best Hands" are shown at 11:45 p.m. at the Fox Grill with prizes for the top three hands. The Illinois MainStreet Cyber Sale is scheduled from 9:00 pm on Tuesday, October 4 and continuing to 9:00 pm the following Wednesday, October 12 with Batavia MainStreet donated items available online at Ebay for bidders. Such packages as "BHS Football Fever," "Murder Mystery Dinner Theater for 8," "Canoe the Fox," "Family Fun for Four on the Fox," "Bike Batavia," and "Uniquely Batavia," "Wild About Windmills" and more will be available for local and world-wide bidding. The 5th Annual BatFest is coming up Friday and Saturday October 28-29th with events going on through out downtown. Community members are encouraged to sign up for the Dracula Blood Drive at River West Family Fitness from 8-Noon. Other morning activities include the popular trick-or-treating from 10 am - Noon and a new "Wanda the Witch" scavenger hunt. The long standing story time and Mother's Club Costume Parade steps off at 1 pm from the library with games, contests, hayrides, Farmers' Market and more from 1-5 pm. Community groups are invited to participate at the festival at no charge with a bake sale or other group fund raiser at the Riverwalk area from 1-5 pm on Saturday October 29th. Groups should contact MainStreet to register their activity by calling 761-3528. A first ever "MainStreet Great American Pie Bake-Off" is looking for area bakers to enter their fruit or cream pie in this tasty competition. The pies will be judged at the festival on Saturday October 29th with winners awarded ribbons and prizes in the afternoon. Entry forms are available by calling the MainStreet office.
