Batavia MainStreet Brings Back Downtown "Boo
Boo Days" Batavia, IL: Batavia MainStreet is bringing back an oldie but goodie – “Boo Boo Days” are returning to downtown as part of Windmill City Festival on Friday July 8th and Saturday July 9th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The historically popular sidewalk sale where merchants would sell off their seasonal ordering “boo boos” and offer brown bag “surprises” for a buck are back. MainStreet is encouraging downtown business participation on one or both days and is also inviting community organizations to fill the sidewalks of businesses that may not have items to sell. Craig Foltos and his famous shop volunteers are helping to promote the event and hoping that many businesses will participate to bring back the memories and fill the sidewalks with people. Registration forms are available at www.downtownbatavia.com and by calling MainStreet at 761-3528 or by stopping in at Foltos Tonsorial Parlor at 7 E. Wilson St. Businesses on high traffic areas of downtown on Wilson Street and Island Ave may adopt a community group to be on their sidewalk. Community groups interested in participating should contact MainStreet or email britta@downtownbatavia.com or check the website at www.downtownbatavia.com for more information. Britta McKenna, Batavia MainStreet Executive Director encourages downtown businesses to participate, “Grab you ‘treaures’ out of the backroom or adopt a group to participate to help bring back a Batavia favorite.” The registration deadline to be included in publicity is June 15th. The Batavia MainStreet Program is one of 58 not-for-profit, community based organizations in the state of Illinois. The mission of Batavia MainStreet is to enhance the identity of Batavia’s downtown area as the heart of our community. MainStreet members work through the four points: Design, Economic Restructuring, Organization and Promotion to improve the downtown district. MainStreet volunteers believe the revitalization of Downtown Batavia is essential to our community’s sense of pride, place, and heritage for this and future generations.
