Bloomin' Batavia Celebrates 10 Years Batavia, IL: Joe Marconi and a team of Batavia MainStreet volunteers are delivering flower pots to high traffic areas on Wednesday morning May 25th. Mr. Marconi is partnering with Shady Hill Gardens and The City of Batavia to place approximately 50 geranium plants and flower pots along Wilson Street and Rt. 31 to beautify the downtown area. This project began ten years ago with Joe’s idea of placing flowers throughout the downtown and has grown to include nearly 50 pots adopted by downtown businesses. Shady Hill garden replants the pots annually and the cost is passed onto to the downtown business community. Downtown businesses are encouraged to “Adopt-a-Pot” for $20 and water them throughout the season to help dress up our downtown. Joe Marconi comments, “Downtown Batavia is blooming once again thanks to Shady Hill and their continued support; this annual program really dresses up our downtown.” For more information about Bloomin’ Batavia contact Joe Marconi at 879-1234. The Batavia MainStreet Program is one of 58 not-for-profit, community based organizations in the state of Illinois. The mission of Batavia MainStreet is to enhance the identity of Batavia’s downtown area as the heart of our community. MainStreet members work through the four points: Design, Economic Restructuring, Organization and Promotion to improve the downtown district. MainStreet volunteers believe the revitalization of Downtown Batavia is essential to our community’s sense of pride, place, and heritage for this and future generations.
