Riverwalk Outdoor Concert Season Kicks Off May 7th with Aurora Youth Symphony “Show Tunes” as Part of “Downtown CleanUp, CookOut and Concert”

Batavia, IL: Batavia MainStreet announces the kick-off of the outdoor concert season at the Batavia Riverwalk with the Saturday May 7th “Show Tunes” performance by the Aurora Youth Symphony. The free concert, conducted by Dr. Gregg Porter, begins at 6:30 p.m. and includes highlights from “The Sound of Music,” “Camelot, “ “My Fair Lady,” with soundtracks from “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” “Chicago,” and “Gladiator.” The concert also includes “Stars and Stripes Forever” and “Sain-Saens Cello Concerto” featuring soloist Nahree Ki. The concert will be moved to the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (1500 W. Sullivan Rd, Aurora) auditorium if raining. Residents are encouraged to bring a blanket, lawn chairs and picnic dinner to the Riverwalk (Houston Street and Island Ave.) to enjoy the evening. Residents are encouraged to fully participate in the May 7th “Downtown CleanUp, CookOut and Concert” by volunteering in the morning (8 am – Noon) or afternoon (1-5 pm) shift to help clean up areas of downtown. All volunteers who work will receive a free ticket to the thank you cook out at the Riverwalk prior to the concert at 5:30. Volunteers should wear work clothes, dress for the weather, bring work gloves and rakes, and meet outside the Peg Bond Center at 8 am or 1 pm to be assigned a team project.
