BatFest 2004 Chalked Full of Downtown Spooktacular Fun

Batavia, IL: BatFest 2004 offers activities for “kids” of all ages. Starting at 8 am is the Dracula Blood Drive at River West Family Fitness (108 First Street) until Noon. Residents are encouraged to reserve a time by calling 879-8889 by Friday. Noon – 5 pm features family activities around downtown and on the Batavia Riverwalk. Karaoke will be featured at the Main Stage, Emceed by Craig Foltos from Noon – 2:00 p.m. followed by contests (screaming, scary hair, sidewalk artist, Rotolo Middle School BatFest poster contest and adult crawling contest). The Batavia Park District “Fall Frenzy” games and contests will be held at BatFest on the lawn off Houston Street as well from 3-5 pm. Gift certificates and prizes have been donated for BatFest contest winners from: Smiling Fox’s Sweet Tooth, Pumpkin Patch Kids, Remarkable, First Street Playhouse, All Dressed Up, Baskin Robbins, Cathy’s Riverwalk Diner, O’Brien’s, East China Inn, Lisa’s Heads or Nails, Sue’s Family Hair Co, Batavia Bucks (Batavia Chamber of Commerce), Citgo Service Center of Batavia, Prairie Ford (West Chicago), 6 flying bats, and a model car.

Families won’t want to miss the fun of Trick-or-Treating downtown from Noon – 3 p.m. Look for the orange pumpkin poster in the window of participating businesses along Rt. 31, Wilson Street and Rt. 25. Costumes will be judged at the Main Stage by the Peg Bond Center at 3 pm. Categories for prizes include: scariest, most original, and best family theme.

A community wide bake sale will be held from Noon – 3 pm along shoppes of N. Island Ave. businesses. Groups such as Anderson Animal Shelter, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies, Batavia Women’s Club, Literacy Volunteers, Batavia Key Club and more will be selling baked good to the community to raise funds for their respective organizations.

Missing the Farmers’ Market already? Your last chance for the season will be at BatFest. Old favories like Paw Paw Farms, Raw Honey, Pet Chef Express, pumpkins and more will be set up in the government center circular lot by the utilities mail box. A BatMart area will feature handmade jewelry, homemade fudge, Smiling Fox’s Sweet Tooth,

BatFest fun rolls into the evening for adults with the premier of the Batavia Poker Pub Crawl. The event is open to adults 21 and over and costs $5.00 per ticket. Participating restaurants include: East China Inn (7-8 pm), Fox Grill (8-9), One East Wilson Grille & Pub (9-10), O’Brien’s Pub and Grill (10-11), Venice Tavern (Formerly Charlie Fox’s ) (11-12). Participants should visit each restaurant during specified hour to receive one poker card at each location. Cards will only be available at specified hours at each location and participants may only get one card per ticket per location. Best hands will be shown at 11:45 pm for cash prizes. Presale tickets for the Poker Pub Crawl are available at the Batavia Chamber of Commerce (100 N. Island Ave.), Sue’s Family Hair Co., or Batavia Main Street office (2 Wilson St., upstairs on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday morning) or from any participating restaurant.
