BATAVIA MAIN STREET APPOINTS BRITTA MCKENNA TO EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION

Batavia, Illinois - The Batavia Main Street Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Britta Wilk McKenna to the position of Batavia Main Street Executive Director. The appointment was ratified at a special board meeting held on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 and will be effective the week after Labor Day. Batavia Main Street President, John Gamble, comments about McKenna’s appointment, “ We are excited about having Britta as our new Executive Director, she brings great qualifications and skills to our program, and will continue to benefit the entire community of Batavia.”

Britta McKenna comes to Batavia Main Street with a strong background in civic work for the community. She has been heavily involved in community-wide activities since moving to the area with husband Steve and sons Kyle and Owen in 1991. Britta was a key leader during the building of the Batavia Riverwalk, spending seven years as the volunteer Marketing Manager, and was responsible for recruiting, placing and managing volunteers, organizing and supervising fund raising events, grant writing, media relations, public relations, major donor cultivation, and special event coordination for the linear park in downtown Batavia built by volunteers

McKenna is no stranger to business in downtown Batavia either. She and husband Steve co-owned the Fox River Outdoor Store from 1994-1998 and she served three years on the Batavia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, President her third year. She has also been active in the Batavia School District in the mid ‘90’s when she chaired the “Future Directions” District Technology Committee.

Britta is currently serving her final year of a six-year term on the Batavia Park Board and her third year as President. She is also an ex-officio board member of the Batavia Parks Foundation and is active at Holy Cross Church and is an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 21.

A reception for the community to welcome Britta on will be held on Monday, August 2 at 5:00 p.m. at O’Brien’s Pub on River St., in Batavia. All residents and businesses owners are encouraged to attend and welcome Britta to her new role as Batavia Main Street Executive Director.
