BATAVIA MAINSTREET NAMES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Batavia, Illinois: Batavia MainStreet Board of Directors announced today the appointment of Joi Cuartero to the position of Executive Director. Cuartero was appointed at the MainStreet Board of Directors meeting today and starts the position on February 21, 2010. Mike Kluber, MainStreet Board President comments, “The candidate pool was diverse and the applicants were all highly qualified. The choice was difficult, but in the end, the board decided that Joi will lead our organization and achieve the vision expressed by all of the stakeholders in downtown Batavia. Joi brings a strong work ethic, talent and passion to the executive director position and I look forward to working with her.”
Cuartero is a resident of Batavia and one of eighteen applicants considered for the position. Joi is one of the founders of Water Street Studios in downtown Batavia and has lent her business skills and love of the arts to help that organization flourish. Joi Cuartero leaves her current position at HD Ready, LLC in St. Charles to accept the new position and has this to say about her appointment. "I am absolutely thrilled that I have been asked to be a part of Batavia MainStreet, and to work with a group so committed to the future of their town. Everyone has been great and I am eager to get started!” One of Batavia’s budding Batavia artists, who also happens to be Batavia’s City Administrator, Bill McGrath, comments on the appointment. “Working with Joi and the other people in the creation and operation of Water Street Studios has shown us her organizational and leadership skills that will serve her well in her new role.”
Joi Cuartero takes the reigns from Britta McKenna, who was hired in 2004. McKenna has stayed on part-time since her December 31, 2010 resignation to maintain the organization during the transition and will provide Main Street Four Point training for Cuartero in the upcoming weeks. Britta has this to say about the board’s decision, “Joi is a great choice for the position; she brings a high energy level, passion for Batavia, connection to the arts and new networks of volunteers to the organization. I’m excited for her and also for the future of Batavia MainStreet.”
