BATAVIA MAINSTREET SEEKS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Batavia, Illinois: Batavia MainStreet Board of Directors announced today the opening of the position of Executive Director effective the first of the year. Interested applicants can find the job description on the Batavia MainStreet web site at www.downtownbatavia.com. Mike Kluber, MainStreet Board President comments, “In reviewing the next steps of her career, Britta McKenna, Executive Director, has determined that she is unable to renew her annual contract with the organization as she focuses on finishing her masters of public administration degree at Northern Illinois University.” McKenna states, “I have accomplished the three primary goals I set out to complete when I was hired six years ago and the end of the fiscal year is a good time for an organizational transition.” McKenna further explains her three primary goals, “My first and most important goal was restoring trust and credibility in the organization and I feel this has been accomplished. Second, was to be a leading MainStreet in the state and Batavia attained ‘Premier Illinois Main Street program,’ in 2008 and continues to be a leader. The third major goal was to oversee the downtown during bridge reconstruction and that has been completed as well. It is now time to finish my degree and by resigning my position with Batavia MainStreet, it allows me to finish my remaining classes and graduate in May, 2011.”
McKenna was hired in 2004 as the part-time executive director then went full time in 2005, growing the to achieve multiple successes such as winning eight state Main Street awards and attaining the level of “Premier Main Street Community” in 2008. The MainStreet organization encourages interested applicants to send in their resume of qualifications and statement of interest to: Batavia MainStreet, 4 ½ W. Wilson Street, Batavia, IL 60510 on or before December 21.
Mike Kluber has this to say about McKenna’s tenure and the upcoming change for Batavia MainStreet, “Britta has been a terrific advocate for downtown Batavia. She is the type of person who commits her heart and soul in all that she does. Britta leaves behind an enthusiastic board of directors and volunteer pool that will allow Batavia to continue in a positive direction as our community recovers from the recent economic downturn and addresses the challenges that our downtown faces. The Batavia MainStreet organization wishes Britta well in all that she does. I would like to add that we will miss her, however, I see that she has committed herself to being an involved volunteer in multiple projects for our upcoming 2011 calendar year.”
The Batavia MainStreet Program is one of 55 not-for-profit, community based organizations in the state of Illinois and one of six Premier Programs designated in Illniois. The mission of Batavia MainStreet is to enhance the identity of Batavia’s downtown area as the heart of our community. MainStreet members work through the four points: Design, Economic Restructuring, Organization and Promotion to improve the downtown district.
