BATAVIA FARMERS’ MARKET OPENS SATURDAY JUNE 26TH
Batavia, IL: Batavia MainStreet kicks off their 15th annual downtown Farmers’ Market this Saturday June 26th. The Market runs Saturdays from 8 am – Noon through October 16th on S. Water Street between Wilson Street and First Street in downtown Batavia. The 2010 Market is presented by Batavia MainStreet and sponsored by Harris, N.A., and Gerald Nissan Subaru of North Aurora.
This year’s Market welcomes back popular returning seasonal vendors: Paw Paw Farms (Michigan Fruits), M & D Farms (flowers and produce), Stojan’s Vegetables, Farm Direct Black Angus, Erehwon Farms (perennial plants, flowers and herbs), Great Harvest Bread Company, dot dot dot…eat cookies a a lot, Twin Garden Farms (mirai gourmet sweet corn), Enjoi Bake Shop, Honey Trails, Fox Prairie Farm Boer Goat, Stamper Cheese, G & E Greenhouse and Susan Berry-Banker (organic produce). A strong contingency of new weekly vendors are coming throughout the season; shoppers can join the facebook group “Batavia Farmers Market” to get weekly updates or check the MainStreet website at www.downtownbatavia.com. Opening day at the Market features a “Bike to the Market” theme. All visitors to the market that come via bicycle are entered in a raffle and can get a free bicycle check up from Prairie Path Cycles at the Batavia MainStreet “Planting Green Ideas” tent.
Batavia “green” volunteers have once again teamed up with Batavia MainStreet and the Farmers’ Market to program the “Planting Green Ideas” tent at the market. Green Ideas Chair Craig Copper is very excited about the tent and encourages market shoppers to stop by and see something new each week. The first three Saturdays of the “Planting Green Ideas” tent include:
June 27: “Bike to the Market” by Prairie Path Cycles
July 4: “Solar Energy” – Confident Aire
July 11: Batavia Women’s Club Conservation Group
FREE Yoga is back at the Batavia Farmers’ Market starting on July 10th. A schedule may be picked up at the downtown Batavia MainStreet tent at the end of the Market block. Volunteers are also needed to assist with the Market. Stop by the downtown Batavia tent to inquire or phone the MainStreet office at (630) 761-3528.
Market applications for weekly vendors may be requested by calling (630) 761-3528 or by visiting the Batavia MainStreet website at downtownbatavia.com and clicking on the Farmers’ Market logo. Weekly market participants are charged $20 for a space and must reserve by the Thursday at Noon prior to each Saturday if space is available.
Community Groups are encouraged to register for one FREE space at the Market anytime during the season.
