BATAVIA MAINSTREET LOOKING FOR HELP TO LIGHT UP THE DOWNTOWN
Batavia, IL: Batavia MainStreet is stepping up to the challenge of helping to decorate downtown Batavia for the holidays. The current budget cuts at the City have downsized the annual downtown Batavia holiday decorating plans, so MainStreet is calling for business owners and volunteers to help with a lighting plan. MainStreet Executive Director, Britta McKenna comments, “We encourage all downtown Batavia businesses to string white lights inside your building to trim your windows and decorate as much as possible. If they need assistance, they can contact MainStreet and we’ll send lights and volunteers to help on November 28th.”
A “Light UP the DOWNtown” decorating day is scheduled for Saturday, November 28th from 9:30 am until Noon. Volunteers should report to the MainStreet office to pick up lights, supplies and directions of where and how to decorate in teams. Lights will be accepted that Saturday, but preferred prior to the 28th so MainStreet knows additional lights need to be purchased to decorate empty store fronts and selected landscaping. Children are welcome to help, but must be accompanied by an adult unless they are in high school.
The Batavia MainStreet office, located at 4 ½ W Wilson Street, under Reel Pro video (take the stairs down to the river level and the front door is under the green canopy), is collecting donated white lights (small bulbs) from the community now through Saturday, November 28th as well as unwrapped toys for the ACCESS toy drive. The MainStreet office is open from 8 am until 5 pm Monday through Friday, but due to a small staff may be out of the office at times, so it is advisable to phone the office at 630-761-3528 before you come to drop off donations.
For more information about the “Light UP the DOWNtown,” please contact the Batavia MainStreet office at (630) 761-3528 or email britta@downtownbatavia.com.
