Batavia, IL: Batavia MainStreet announces the first Batavia Kids Bicycle race on Memorial Day, Monday May 26th at 11:45 am as part of the new Batavia Criterium. The entry fee is $3 per child or 2 kids for $5 and registration is onsite starting at 9 am at the white MainStreet tent outside Prairie Path Cycles (122 W Wilson St) in downtown Batavia. Kids must wear a helmet to participate in one of four age groups: 4 & under (big wheels allowed), 5&6 year olds, 7 & 8 year olds and 9 & 10 year olds. The "race" takes place on Rt. 31 between Wilson Street and Main Street with littlest bikers racing first. All participants receive a medal.
The new Batavia Criterium is held in downtown Batavia on Memorial Day, Monday May 26th and features professional bicycle racing from 9 am until 3 pm. The Batavia Criterium hosts Masters bicycle racing categories for professional races over 30 years of age. Races are held at 9:00 am, 9:30 am, 10:15 am, 11:00 am, 12:20 pm, 1:15 pm and the final race is at 2:05 pm. Downtown Batavia's west side will be transformed into a bicycle race track and spectators are invited to come downtown and join the fun. Parking is encouraged near the Riverwalk area and by City Hall or the east side of the river and walking over the bicycle pedestrian bridge. The race course loop starts and finishes on S. Batavia Ave (Rt. 31), heads east on Main Street, goes north on S. Water Street, then east on First Street, north on Shumway, west on Wilson, then south on Rt. 31. Traffic will be closed on the western part of W Wilson Street, Rt. 31 between Main and Wilson Street, S. Water and First Streets as well as Shumway Ave.
