Batavia MainStreet is gearing up for the 4th Annual Batavia Gala on the Fox fundraiser.  This year the event will be hosted at Piper’s Banquets on Saturday March 13, 2010 at 5:30pm.  This signature MainStreet fundraising event draws over 200 people and includes an auction, food and festivities designed to raise funds for Batavia MainStreet and provide an evening of entertainment for community supporters.   Tickets are available online at this website or at the MainStreet office, 4 1/2 W. Wilson, just below Reel Pro Video right on the River.  Tickets are $50/each.

Location:  Rotolo Middle School, North Parking Lot
When:  Sunday May 16, 2010
Time:  1-3pm

Event:  Open to all school age children of Batavia interested in learning basic bicycle safety skills in a controlled setting.  The event should last about and hour and includes:

1.  Bicycle Safety Inspection on all participants' bikes.
2.  Helmet Safety Inspection and Fitting for all participants.
3.  Bicycle Safety Presentation.
4.  Bicycle Safety Obstacle Course.

All participants are required to provide their own bicycle and helmet.
Rain or shine.  If rain there will be a safety seminar in the gym.

Homewood historian James R. Wright will give an overview of the early history of the Dixie Highway in Illinois, illustrated by photos from his book. The highway was an early thoroughfare between Chicago and Miami. In Illinois, the highway’s origins date to 1915, and it was the first Illinois highway to be fully paved when it was completed in 1921.

Hearts of Hope, a local 501c organization,  will hold its 3rd Annual Chris’ Walk Against Substance Abuse to raise funds for books for jail ministry, continue support group programs, and maintain and/or fund other community outreach programs.

Chris’ Walk is a 1.5-mile walk that will be held at the Batavia Riverwalk on Sat., 7/17/10.  Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. followed by the walk at 9 a.m.  There will also be a rally at 10:00 a.m. featuring guest speaker, Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez.  Christian radio station, KLOVE 94.3 FM will emcee the event with live music.  There will be goodie bags, food, free massages, and a Dunk Tank. A great morning to bring your family out to raise funds for a worthy cause, get some exercise and have some fun.

We're blocking off N. River Street to celebrate the end of summer! Bring the whole family for affordable $2 tastings at participating downtown restaurants and live entertainment at the stage on N. River Street and Wilson from 5-10 pm.  Also featured is Batavia Academy of Dance at 6 pm and the Art in Your Eye Miniatures live auction at 8 pm.  Bands include "Lightspeak" at 5 pm and "Field Day Rocks" part one at 6:30 and "Field Day Rocks" part two from 8:30 until 10.

Batavia scenic neighborhoods and the Fox River bicycle path host a 1/2 marathon that starts and finishes at the scenic Batavia Riverwalk in downtown.  More information about the race and online registration is available at www.halfmadness.com. Volunteers are needed to assist with the race.
