Volunteering is a great way to meet your neighbors and ensure the continual
improvement of Downtown Batavia. Contact the Batavia MainStreet for additional
information or come to one of our meetings.
The Batavia MainStreet Program is comprised of four main committees -
which one interests you?
The Design Committee works on enhancing the look and feel of downtown.
Previously, that committee worked on the renovation of the Thomle Building,
which earned both MainStreet and the city redevelopment honors. The Design
Committee inventoried all downtown buildings five years ago, noting their
history and current uses. Now that inventory is being used by Batavia's
new Historical Preservation Committee to create a downtown historical
district.
The Promotion Committee helps organize community events such as BatFest
and Shakespeare on Clarke.
The Organization Committee takes care of such duties as publishing the
organization's newsletter, maintaining the website and overseeing membership
growth.
The Economic Restructuring Committee is looking at "branding"
Batavia's downtown, hoping to discover and enhance the city's niche in
the surrounding community.
